Student Support Assistant
Temporary
Location: the school
Start Date: October 2026
About the Role
You'll work alongside teaching and pastoral staff at a school to help students get the most out of their learning, offering practical, day-to-day support both in lessons and around the wider setting.
This is a role for someone patient, approachable and genuinely interested in helping young people build confidence and independence.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to students with a range of additional learning needs.
- Helping students access the curriculum and develop independent learning skills.
- Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
- Encouraging engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour.
- Supporting students with routines and navigating day-to-day life in the setting.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to student support plans and reviews.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting young people in an educational, care or community setting
- Strong communication, empathy and interpersonal skills
- A genuine commitment to inclusive learning and student progress
- A patient, adaptable and proactive approach
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working with students with SEND or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of EHCPs and learning support strategies
- A relevant qualification in education, support work or youth work
