Learning Support Assistant
Temporary | Contract
Location: the East Midlands
Start date: 8 October 2026
Are you someone who enjoys helping learners overcome barriers and get the most from their education?
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider as a Learning Support Assistant, working alongside teaching staff to support learners with a range of additional learning needs. You'll provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping learners access the curriculum, build confidence and develop their independence.
You'll work both in lessons and around the wider learning environment, encouraging engagement and positive behaviour, and helping learners manage their routines day to day.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tailored one-to-one and small-group support to learners with additional learning needs.
- Helping learners access the curriculum and develop independent learning skills.
- Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
- Promoting engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to learner support plans and reviews.
- Prioritising the safeguarding and wellbeing of learners at all times.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting young people or adults in an educational, care or community setting
- Strong communication, empathy and interpersonal skills
- A genuine commitment to inclusive learning and learner progress
- A patient, adaptable and proactive approach
- An enhanced DBS, or a willingness to obtain one
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working with learners with SEND or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of EHCPs, learning support strategies and assistive technology
- A relevant qualification in education, support work or youth work
