Job Description
Learning Support Mentor
Temporary
Location: the East of England
Start date: October 2026
Are you a patient, empathetic person who wants to help learners overcome the barriers standing between them and their potential?
About the role
A further education provider is looking for a Learning Support Mentor to work alongside teaching staff, supporting learners with a range of additional needs so they can access their programme and make progress.
You'll build trusting relationships with the students you support, adapting your approach to suit each individual and encouraging the confidence and independence that helps them get the most from their studies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support to learners with additional learning needs, both in lessons and across the wider learner environment.
- Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
- Helping learners work towards their individual learning targets and develop independent study skills.
- Encouraging engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour.
- Keeping accurate records and contributing to learner support plans and reviews.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Experience of supporting young people or adults in an education, care or community setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with genuine empathy and patience
- The ability to build positive, professional relationships with learners and staff
- A commitment to inclusive learning and learner progress
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience of supporting learners with SEND or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of EHCPs, learning support strategies or assistive technology
- A relevant qualification in education, support work or youth work, or a willingness to work towards one
If you're ready to help learners achieve more than they thought possible, we'd love to hear from you.
