Designated Teacher
Temporary
Location: London
Start date: 12 October 2026
About the Role
You'll take on the Designated Teacher role within an education provider, acting as the key point of contact for looked-after and previously looked-after young people and making sure their needs are understood and met across the organisation.
You'll work closely with teaching and support staff, carers, local authorities and external agencies to champion each learner's progress, wellbeing and attendance.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the lead advocate for looked-after and previously looked-after learners.
- Monitoring the progress, attendance and engagement of the young people you support.
- Working with teaching and support staff to make sure appropriate support is in place.
- Liaising with carers, local authorities, social workers and other external agencies.
- Contributing to planning and review meetings for individual learners.
- Promoting awareness of the needs of looked-after learners across the organisation.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A recognised teaching qualification
- Experience supporting vulnerable young people in an education setting
- Strong understanding of the needs of looked-after and previously looked-after learners
- Confident working with external agencies and multi-disciplinary teams
- Ability to build rapport and meaningful connections with young people
Desirable (but not essential):
- Previous experience in a Designated Teacher role
- Experience of SEND or pastoral leadership
