Job Description
Student Support Officer
Temporary | Contract
Start date: September 2026
About the Role
You'll join an education provider as a Student Support Officer, working alongside teaching and support teams to help learners settle in, stay engaged and get the most from their programme.
This is a practical, people-facing role. You'll be a first point of contact for students who need help, whether that's a pastoral concern, a question about their course or a referral into more specialist support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing day-to-day pastoral and practical support to learners across a range of programmes.
- Acting as a first point of contact for students raising concerns about their studies or wellbeing.
- Monitoring attendance, engagement and progress, and following up where learners are at risk of falling behind.
- Signposting and referring students to specialist services where additional support is needed.
- Working closely with teaching staff to agree and put in place appropriate support.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential records of support provided.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting young people or adults in an education, care or community setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm and approachable manner
- The ability to build positive, professional relationships with learners and colleagues
- Good organisation and record-keeping skills
- A genuine commitment to removing barriers to learning
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience within a further education or training environment
- Knowledge of pastoral, welfare or safeguarding referral processes
- A relevant qualification in education, advice and guidance, or youth work
If you enjoy helping learners overcome the things that get in the way of their studies, we'd love to hear from you.
