Job Description

SEN Horticulture Tutor

Temporary | Contract

Location: the West Midlands

Start: September 2026

Are you a horticulture professional who would like to share your skills with learners with additional needs?

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider delivering practical horticulture sessions to learners with special educational needs. Working with learners of varying ages and abilities, you'll help them build practical skills, confidence and independence through hands-on learning.

You'll adapt your sessions to suit each learner's needs, creating a supportive environment where everyone can take part and make progress. You'll be supported whether you come from a teaching background or straight from industry.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging practical horticulture sessions tailored to learners with additional needs.
  • Planning lessons, schemes of work and learning resources.
  • Assessing learners' work and providing constructive feedback to support progression.
  • Tracking learner progress through tutorials and reviews.
  • Maintaining a safe, organised working environment that reflects industry standards.
  • Promoting employability skills, independence and safe working practice.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • A vocational qualification in horticulture or a related subject
  • Practical, hands-on horticulture experience
  • A patient, encouraging approach to working with learners with additional needs

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A recognised teaching qualification
  • Previous experience teaching or assessing in a further education or SEN setting
