Job Description

Learning Support Practitioner

Contract: Temporary (6 weeks with a strong chance of extending)

Hours: Part-Time & Full-Time options available (22.5, 30, or 37 hours per week – Term Time Only)

About the Role

Dovetail is looking for compassionate, proactive Learning Support Practitioners to join our client, a prominent Further Education provider in York. This is an initial 6-week temporary assignment supporting students with additional learning needs, with a high likelihood of extension for the right candidate.

You will provide 1:1 and small group educational support and care to help students overcome barriers to learning, fully engage with their curriculum, and thrive in their studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teaching staff by guiding student learning in the classroom.
  • Provide 1:1 or group support during lessons and unstructured times (breaks/lunch).
  • Assist with mobility and personal care needs on campus and during off-site visits.
  • Help with transport arrangements at the end of the college day, as needed.
  • Communicate proactively with tutors to ensure a positive, inclusive student experience.

Shift Options Available

  • 22.5 hours/week: Mon/Thu/Fri OR Tue/Thu/Fri
  • 30 hours/week: Spread across the college week
  • 37 hours/week: Full-time hours

About You

You should hold a Level 3 qualification or above and bring experience or skills in any of the following areas:

  • Supporting individuals on the autistic spectrum or with severe learning difficulties/disabilities.
  • Assisting students with emotional, behavioral, or medical needs.
  • Experience with visual/hearing impairments or assistive technology/ICT.
  • Confidence with personal care and mobility support.
