Job Description
Learning Support Assistant
Temporary | Contract
Location: Yorkshire and the Humber
Start date: 5 October 2026
About the Role
Our client, a further education provider, is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to help learners with additional needs get the most from their studies. You'll work alongside teaching staff to create an inclusive classroom where every learner can take part and make progress.
You don't need a teaching qualification for this role — what matters is your enthusiasm for supporting learners and your ability to build their confidence.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to learners with a range of additional learning needs.
- Helping learners access the curriculum and develop independent learning skills.
- Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
- Encouraging engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour in the classroom and around the provider.
- Contributing to learner support plans and keeping accurate records.
- Prioritising the safeguarding and wellbeing of vulnerable learners at all times.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting young people or adults in an educational, care or community setting
- Strong communication, empathy and interpersonal skills
- A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting diverse needs
- A genuine commitment to inclusive learning
- Enhanced DBS, or a willingness to obtain one
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working with learners with SEND or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of EHCPs, learning support strategies and assistive technology
- A relevant qualification in education, support work or youth work, or a willingness to work towards one
If you're ready to help learners overcome barriers and achieve what they're capable of, we'd love to hear from you.
