Job Description

Learning Support Assistant

Temporary | Contract

Location: the West Midlands

Start date: 14 September 2026

Are you experienced in supporting young people and adults, and looking for a role where you can help learners overcome barriers to education?

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll work with learners at a further education provider, giving them the practical and personal support they need to access their course and build confidence in their own abilities.

You'll work both in lessons and alongside teaching staff, providing one-to-one and small-group support to learners with a range of additional learning needs and helping to keep the learning environment inclusive for everyone.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to learners with additional learning needs.
  • Helping learners to access the curriculum, build confidence and develop independent learning skills.
  • Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
  • Encouraging engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Supporting learners with routines and day-to-day aspects of student life.
  • Keeping accurate records and contributing to learner support plans and reviews.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience of supporting young people or adults in an education, care or community setting
  • Strong communication, empathy and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive, professional relationships with learners and staff
  • A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting a range of needs

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience of working with learners with SEND, SEMH or other learning barriers
  • An understanding of EHCPs, learning support strategies and assistive technology
  • A relevant qualification in education, support work or youth work, or a willingness to work towards one

No formal teaching qualification is required — what matters most is a genuine commitment to helping learners progress.

If you're ready to make a real difference to learners' confidence and achievement, we'd love to hear from you.
