Functional Skills Lecturer
Temporary
Location: Yorkshire and the Humber
Start date: October 2026
About the Role
A further education provider in the region is looking for a Functional Skills Lecturer to join its teaching team. You'll deliver Functional Skills English and Maths to post-16 learners of varying abilities, helping them close gaps in their knowledge and achieve the qualifications they need for work and further study.
You'll plan and prepare your own sessions, track learner progress and give the feedback and encouragement that keeps students moving forward.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, accessible Functional Skills English and Maths lessons.
- Preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Assessing learners' work and providing timely, constructive feedback on their progress.
- Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building their confidence and motivation.
- Maintaining accurate records of attendance, achievement and progress.
- Working collaboratively with curriculum and learner support colleagues.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience of teaching or supporting learners in English and/or Maths
- A relevant qualification or subject background in English and/or Maths
- Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification
- Experience of delivering Functional Skills within further education
