Lecturer – Foundation Studies

Location: North West London
Salary: £42,000 – £47,000 per annum, including London Weighting
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Start Date: September 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Foundation Lecturer to join a Further Education provision in North West London, supporting learners across a range of Foundation Studies programmes, with a particular focus on Access to FE.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced FE professional who is passionate about helping learners develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to progress into employment, further education or training.

The Role

As a Foundation Lecturer, you will plan and deliver engaging teaching across a range of Foundation Studies programmes. You will play an important role in supporting learners' academic, personal and employability development, while contributing to the ongoing development of the curriculum.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, delivering and assessing teaching across Foundation Studies.
  • Teaching and integrating Functional Skills into the curriculum.
  • Supporting learners to develop independence, employability and work-related skills.
  • Preparing learners for Functional Skills examinations and relevant portfolio qualifications.
  • Adapting teaching and learning to meet a wide range of abilities and individual needs.
  • Working effectively alongside Learning Support Assistants within the classroom.
  • Tracking learner progress, achievement, attendance and retention.
  • Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources.
  • Supporting learners with progression into further education, employment and training.
  • Contributing to curriculum development and course reviews.
  • Participating in enrichment activities, residential trips and activity days where required.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed FE professional with experience of teaching within Foundation Learning.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject area, or a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant area alongside substantial successful Foundation teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching within a Foundation Learning / Foundation Studies environment.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills.
  • Experience working with learners with LDD, SEND and/or challenging behaviour.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of effective practice within Foundation Learning.
  • A Level 5 teaching qualification recognised within the FE sector, or the willingness and ability to work towards one.
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or equivalent, or willingness to achieve.

The successful candidate will have strong classroom management skills, the ability to adapt teaching to a range of learner needs, and a genuine commitment to engaging, motivating and supporting learners to achieve.

You should be comfortable working collaboratively with colleagues and Learning Support staff and have a strong understanding of inclusive teaching, safeguarding and learner welfare.
