About the Role
You'll join an education provider as the Designated Lead for Looked After Children and Care Leavers, acting as the key point of contact for learners who are looked after, previously looked after or leaving care.
You'll make sure these learners are known, supported and able to progress, working closely with staff, carers, social workers and external agencies to remove the barriers that get in the way of attendance, engagement and achievement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the designated lead for looked after children and care leavers across the organisation.
- Monitoring the attendance, progress and achievement of learners in this group and putting practical support plans in place.
- Providing pastoral support to learners who may be vulnerable or facing complex personal circumstances.
- Liaising with social workers, virtual schools, carers and other external professionals to deliver joined-up support.
- Advising and training staff so that the needs of looked after learners and care leavers are understood and met.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential records and contributing to reports for senior leaders.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting looked after children, care leavers or young people with complex needs
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and confidence handling concerns, referrals and records
- Experience of multi-agency working with social care and external professionals
- Calm, organised and professional, with the ability to guide and advise colleagues
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience of working in a further education or training setting
- A relevant qualification in safeguarding, pastoral care or social care
If you're ready to make a real difference to learners who need an advocate in their corner, we'd love to hear from you.
