About the Role

A further education provider in the East of England is looking for an Assistant Head of Maths, English and Support to help lead the delivery of maths, English and learning support across the organisation.

You'll support the Head of Department in the day-to-day running of the area, leading and developing a team of teaching and support staff and making sure learners working towards their GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications get the teaching and the support they need to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting the Head of Department in leading and coordinating maths, English and learning support provision.
• Leading, managing and developing teaching and learning support staff.
• Coordinating timetables and the allocation of learning support across the area.
• Monitoring learner progress, achievement and attendance, and acting where outcomes need to improve.
• Supporting quality assurance activity, including learning walks and observations of teaching.
• Teaching maths or English to learners of mixed ability as part of the role.
• Deputising for the Head of Department when required.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Experience of teaching maths or English in further education
• Experience of leading, managing or coordinating a team
• A relevant teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, DET or equivalent
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills

Desirable (but not essential):

• Experience of learning support, inclusion or additional learning needs provision
• Experience of quality assurance and the observation of teaching and learning
