Job Description

SEMH Lecturer

Temporary

Location: London

Start date: 1 September 2026

Are you an experienced SEMH or SEND specialist who knows how to re-engage learners others have given up on?

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider in London, working with small groups of learners whose primary needs are social, emotional and mental health, often alongside autism, ADHD and other neurodiverse needs.

You'll plan and deliver sessions that meet learners where they are, building the relationships and routines that make progress possible, and working alongside learning support assistants, pastoral teams and external professionals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.
  • Delivering English, maths, tutorials and personal, social and study skills.
  • Supporting learners with SEMH needs and other barriers to learning.
  • Building positive relationships with disengaged or challenging learners.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, attendance and engagement.
  • Monitoring and assessing learner progress.
  • Supporting EHCP targets and progression planning.
  • Working closely with learning support assistants, pastoral teams and external professionals.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Full Level 5 teaching qualification — PGCE, Cert Ed or DET
  • Significant experience working with SEMH or SEND learners
  • Experience managing challenging or disengaged behaviour
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Experience delivering English and maths

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Understanding of EHCPs and multi-agency working
  • A resilient, patient and adaptable approach

If you're ready to help learners with SEMH needs re-engage with education and move forward, we'd love to hear from you.
