Security Guard
Temporary | Contract
Location: the South West
Start date: 2 October 2026
About the Role
We're recruiting a Security Guard to join a further education provider in the South West. You'll help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment across site, working alongside staff to support learners and keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
This is a visible, public-facing role, so you'll need to be approachable as well as professional — much of the work is about building rapport with learners and visitors rather than simply responding to problems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting site tours to encourage lanyard use and respectful behaviour.
- Supervising behaviour across designated areas and monitoring common rooms during break times.
- Responding to incidents involving unauthorised individuals on site.
- Building rapport with learners and reporting any at risk to the safeguarding team.
- Reporting breaches of the code of conduct.
- Communicating regularly with safeguarding and tutorial colleagues to support a safe culture.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Previous security experience, ideally in a public-facing environment
- Proven ability to work effectively with young people and vulnerable adults
- Professional, reliable and approachable, with excellent communication skills
- Willing and able to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
Desirable (but not essential):
- A GCSE (or equivalent) qualification
