Job Description

Safeguarding Officer

Temporary | Contract

Location: the East Midlands

Start date: 12 October 2026

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider as a Safeguarding Officer, acting as one of the designated officers and playing a central part in protecting and supporting learners across the organisation.

You'll respond to safeguarding and welfare concerns promptly and accurately, offering immediate support where young people or vulnerable adults are at risk, and helping learners build the confidence to access support services independently.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Handling safeguarding and welfare enquiries by email and phone in line with agreed guidelines.
  • Following up on safeguarding incidents in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Supporting learners facing challenges such as mental health difficulties, and those who are care leavers.
  • Supporting high-needs learners, including ESOL learners, young parents and vulnerable adults, to remain on their courses.
  • Helping to manage a caseload of learners, assessing risk and coordinating interventions or referrals where needed.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date electronic records.
  • Working with colleagues, parents and external agencies to ensure smooth transitions and ongoing support.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Relevant experience in a safeguarding capacity
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding and Prevent frameworks
  • Experience supporting young people in education or community settings
  • Excellent communication, organisation and report-writing skills
  • Able to start quickly and provide support from day one
  • Full right to work in the UK

If you're ready to make a real difference to the safety and wellbeing of learners, we'd love to hear from you.
