Plumbing Skills Coach
Temporary
Location: Yorkshire and the Humber
Start date: 11 June 2026
Are you an experienced plumber looking to step off the tools and support the next generation of tradespeople?
About the Role
As a Plumbing Skills Coach with a further education provider, you'll support apprentices and learners working towards their plumbing qualifications, coaching them through their programme and assessing their competence in the workplace and on site.
You'll bring your trade experience into your coaching, helping learners build the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to progress into employment. You'll work closely with employers to monitor progress and keep each learner on track to complete on time.
If you come from industry rather than teaching, that's welcome. Where relevant, the provider offers support to help you develop your teaching and assessment practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coaching, mentoring and reviewing a caseload of plumbing apprentices and learners.
- Carrying out workplace and on-site assessments of practical skills and competence.
- Guiding learners through the compilation and submission of portfolio evidence.
- Providing constructive feedback and setting clear action plans towards qualification milestones.
- Maintaining accurate assessment records and tracking progress on e-portfolio systems.
- Liaising with employers and tutors to coordinate visits and review learner development.
- Taking part in standardisation and internal quality assurance activities.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A Level 3 qualification or equivalent in plumbing
- Substantial industry experience in the plumbing trade
- The ability to travel to various locations to support learners
Desirable (but not essential):
- An assessor qualification
- A teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one
- Previous experience of assessing or coaching in the workplace
