Job Description
Personal Tutor
Temporary
Location: the East of England
Start date: September 2026
Are you passionate about supporting learners to get the most out of their education?
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider as a Personal Tutor, working closely with learners to keep them engaged, on track and moving towards their next steps. This is a pastoral role rather than a classroom teaching one, so formal teaching qualifications aren't required.
You'll meet learners one to one, agree targets with them and follow up on the issues that get in the way of progress. You'll also work alongside curriculum and support colleagues to make sure learners who need extra help get it early.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Holding one-to-one meetings with learners to review progress and set targets.
- Providing pastoral support to learners throughout their studies.
- Monitoring timekeeping, attendance and behaviour, and acting on concerns promptly.
- Supporting learners with next steps, including UCAS applications, apprenticeships, further study and employment.
- Working with curriculum and support colleagues to put the right interventions in place.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Level 2 qualification or higher in English and maths
- Experience of working with young adults
- An Enhanced DBS, or a willingness to obtain one
Desirable (but not essential):
- Knowledge of additional learning needs
- Up-to-date safeguarding training, or a willingness to obtain it
- Experience in a care or learner support setting
If you're ready to help learners build the confidence to achieve, we'd love to hear from you.
