Job Description

Personal Development Tutor

Temporary | Contract

Location: the South West

Start date: October 2026

Are you passionate about supporting young people to get the most out of their education?

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider to support learners with the pastoral side of their studies, helping them stay engaged, build confidence and plan their next steps. No formal teaching qualification is required — experience of supporting learners or a background in care is just as welcome.

You'll work closely with learners at varied stages of their studies, meeting them individually and stepping in early where attendance, behaviour or wellbeing becomes a concern.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Holding one-to-one meetings with learners to review progress and set targets.
  • Providing day-to-day pastoral support.
  • Monitoring timekeeping, attendance and behaviour, and acting on issues as they arise.
  • Supporting learners with their next steps, including UCAS applications, apprenticeships, further study and employment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • A Level 2 qualification or higher in English and maths
  • Experience of working with young adults
  • An Enhanced DBS check, or a willingness to obtain one

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Knowledge of additional learning needs
  • Up-to-date safeguarding training, or a willingness to obtain it

If you're ready to help learners achieve more than they thought they could, we'd love to hear from you.
