About the Role
You'll join a further education provider in Yorkshire and the Humber, supporting learners with special educational needs through a combination of pastoral care and tailored teaching. You'll work with young people who need additional help to settle, stay engaged and make progress in their study programme.
You'll build trusting relationships with your learners, getting to know their individual needs and adapting your approach so that each of them can take part fully and with confidence. You'll work alongside curriculum, support and safeguarding colleagues to make sure the right help is in place at the right time.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering differentiated teaching and learning to SEN learners of mixed ability.
- Providing pastoral support and guidance to learners throughout their programme.
- Adapting resources and approaches to meet individual learning and communication needs.
- Monitoring learner progress, attendance and engagement, and acting on concerns promptly.
- Contributing to EHCP reviews, target setting and transition planning.
- Supporting learners to develop confidence, independence and preparation for adulthood skills.
- Working closely with curriculum, learning support and safeguarding colleagues.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting learners with special educational needs
- The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with young people
- A calm, patient and person-centred approach
- Strong communication and organisational skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- A teaching qualification such as PGCE, CertEd or QTS
- A qualification in SEND, autism or inclusive education
- Experience working in a further education or post-16 setting
- Experience contributing to EHCP reviews
If you're ready to help SEN learners grow in confidence and get the most from their time in education, we'd love to hear from you.
