Mechanical Engineering Lecturer
Temporary
Location: the East Midlands
Start date: 7 September 2026
Are you an experienced mechanical engineering professional looking to inspire the next generation of engineers?
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider to deliver theory and practical mechanical engineering sessions to learners working towards industry-recognised qualifications. You'll bring real-world engineering practice into the classroom and workshop, teaching the technical skills learners need alongside the professional standards employers expect.
If you're new to teaching, that's no barrier. Industry professionals are supported with fully funded teacher training, mentoring and ongoing development.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging theory and practical mechanical engineering sessions.
- Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans and learning materials.
- Assessing learners' work and tracking their progress towards their qualifications.
- Supporting curriculum development and the day-to-day running of workshop sessions.
- Maintaining safe, industry-standard working practices in the workshop.
- Encouraging learners to build the confidence, professionalism and employability skills the industry asks for.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Relevant industry experience in a mechanical engineering environment
- Strong practical and technical subject knowledge
- A genuine interest in developing and supporting learners
Desirable (but not essential):
- HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering
- A recognised teaching qualification
- Previous experience of teaching or assessing in further education
