Job Description

Maths Lecturer

Temporary

Location: the South West

Start date: July 2026

Are you a maths specialist who enjoys helping learners rebuild their confidence with the subject?

About the Role

Working with a further education provider, you'll deliver GCSE and Functional Skills Maths to learners studying across a range of vocational programmes, supporting them towards their target grade and the numeracy skills they'll need for work and further study.

You'll plan and prepare your sessions, track progress and give timely, constructive feedback, adapting your teaching to a group of mixed abilities and prior experiences.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and accessible Maths lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
  • Marking learner work and tracking progress towards qualification targets.
  • Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building confidence and motivation.
  • Working collaboratively with the Maths team and wider curriculum colleagues.
  • Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience teaching GCSE or Functional Skills Maths
  • A strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
  • The ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, DET or a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • Previous experience within further education

If you're ready to help learners achieve the Maths grade that opens doors for them, we'd love to hear from you.
