Job Description
Learning Support Mentor (Computing and Engineering)
Temporary
Location: the East of England
Are you a patient, encouraging person who wants to help learners get the most from their technical studies?
About the role
A further education provider is looking for a Learning Support Mentor to work alongside teaching staff on its computing and engineering programmes, supporting learners with additional needs so they can access their course and make progress.
You'll build trusting relationships with the students you support, adapting your approach to suit each individual and encouraging the confidence and independence that helps them get the most from their studies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support to learners with additional learning needs, in computing and engineering lessons and across the wider learner environment.
- Working with teaching staff to put support strategies in place and adapt learning materials.
- Helping learners work towards their individual learning targets and develop independent study skills.
- Encouraging engagement, inclusion and positive behaviour.
- Keeping accurate records and contributing to learner support plans and reviews.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Experience supporting young people or adults in an education, care or community setting
- Strong communication, empathy and interpersonal skills
- A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting a range of needs
- A genuine commitment to inclusive learning and learner progress
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience supporting learners with SEND or additional learning barriers
- An interest in or familiarity with computing or engineering subjects
- A relevant qualification in education or learning support, or a willingness to work towards one
If you're ready to help learners overcome the barriers standing between them and their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
