Head of Department - Health & Social Care
Temporary | Contract
Location: London
Start date: 30 September 2026
Are you an experienced Health & Social Care curriculum leader looking for a management opportunity within further education?
About the Role
You'll take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and performance of the Health & Social Care department with a further education provider, making sure teaching, learning and learner outcomes are of a consistently high standard.
You'll lead a team of teaching staff, oversee curriculum delivery and quality, and work closely with senior leaders and other curriculum areas to drive improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing Health & Social Care teaching staff.
- Overseeing curriculum delivery, planning and quality.
- Monitoring learner attendance, progress, achievement and retention.
- Supporting and managing staff performance and development.
- Ensuring high standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Monitoring curriculum KPIs and contributing to improvement planning.
- Managing day-to-day operational issues within the department.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of Health & Social Care within further education
- Previous curriculum or departmental leadership experience
- Confidence to take ownership of a curriculum area and manage a team
- Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience currently or previously working as a Head of Department, Curriculum Manager, Curriculum Area Manager, Programme Manager or Head of Faculty
