Job Description

GCSE Maths Lecturer

Temporary

Location: Yorkshire and the Humber

Start date: September 2026

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider in Yorkshire and the Humber, delivering GCSE Maths to learners resitting the qualification as part of their study programme. You'll support them to work towards a Grade 4 and to build the numeracy skills they'll rely on in work, life and further study.

You'll teach groups of mixed ability, adapting your approach so that learners who have not previously succeeded in Maths can make progress and rebuild their confidence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and accessible GCSE Maths lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
  • Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
  • Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building confidence and motivation.
  • Working collaboratively with the Maths team and wider curriculum staff.
  • Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience teaching GCSE Maths within further education or secondary education
  • A Maths-specific qualification or strong numeracy background
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to inspire learners

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A UK teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, DET or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • A strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies

If you're ready to help learners succeed in GCSE Maths, we'd love to hear from you.
