Job Description

GCSE Maths Lecturer

Temporary

Location: the North East

Start date: 22 September 2026

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider in the North East to deliver GCSE Maths to learners resitting the qualification alongside their main study programme, supporting them towards a Grade 4 and the numeracy skills they'll carry into work and further study.

You'll teach groups of mixed ability, many of whom arrive with gaps in knowledge and low confidence in the subject, and you'll work closely with the wider maths team to keep learners on track.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and accessible GCSE Maths lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
  • Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
  • Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building confidence and motivation.
  • Working collaboratively with the maths team and wider curriculum staff.
  • Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience teaching GCSE Maths within further education or secondary education
  • A recognised UK teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, DET or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • A maths-specific qualification or strong numeracy background
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Understanding of effective GCSE resit strategies
  • Experience teaching learners on vocational study programmes

If you're ready to help learners succeed in GCSE Maths, we'd love to hear from you.
