Job Description

GCSE English Lecturer (x2)

Temporary

Location: the North West

Start date: 7 September 2026

Are you an experienced English teacher looking to help learners gain the grade that opens doors for them?

About the Role

You'll join a further education provider in the North West, delivering GCSE English to learners resitting the qualification as part of their study programme. There are two positions available.

This is an opportunity to support learners of mixed abilities to build the literacy, confidence and motivation they need for work, further study and everyday life. You'll work alongside the wider curriculum team, planning and adapting your teaching so that every learner has a route to a Grade 4.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and accessible GCSE English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
  • Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
  • Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building their confidence and motivation.
  • Working collaboratively with the English team and wider curriculum staff.
  • Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience teaching GCSE English within further education or secondary education
  • Strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire learners

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A recognised UK teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, DET or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

If you're ready to help learners achieve the English grade they need, we'd love to hear from you.
