Job Description

GCSE English Lecturer

Temporary

Location: Yorkshire and the Humber

Start date: September 2026

About the Role

A further education provider in the region is looking for a GCSE English Lecturer to join its teaching team. You'll deliver high-quality GCSE English teaching to post-16 learners, many of them resitting the qualification, supporting them to reach a Grade 4 and build the literacy skills they need for work and further study.

You'll plan and prepare your own sessions, track learner progress and give the feedback and encouragement that keeps students moving forward.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and accessible GCSE English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
  • Marking learners' work and providing timely, constructive feedback on their progress.
  • Supporting students with gaps in knowledge, building their confidence and motivation.
  • Working collaboratively with the English team and wider curriculum staff.
  • Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience of teaching GCSE English within further education or secondary education
  • A strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
  • The ability to differentiate and adapt your teaching to varied learning needs
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire learners

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, DET or a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
  • A degree-level qualification in a relevant subject

If you're ready to help learners succeed in GCSE English, we'd love to hear from you.
