Functional Skills Trainer
Temporary
Are you a confident maths and English educator looking to help learners gain the core skills they need for work and everyday life?
About the Role
A training provider is looking to appoint a Functional Skills Trainer to deliver Functional Skills maths and English, supporting learners to build confidence and progress towards their qualifications. This is a temporary role, with a start date of October 2026.
You'll plan and deliver inclusive sessions to learners with a range of starting points and learning needs, assessing where each person is and tracking their progress through to completion.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging Functional Skills maths and English sessions.
- Carrying out initial and diagnostic assessments to establish learners' starting points.
- Setting up and maintaining individual learning plans and tracking progress.
- Preparing learners for formal assessments and qualifications.
- Adapting resources and teaching approaches to suit a range of abilities and additional needs.
- Keeping accurate records, including registers and assessment logs.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification in maths and/or English
- Experience delivering Functional Skills maths or English
- Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
- Good administrative and communication skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- A Level 5 teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
- Experience within further education or adult learning
- Familiarity with diagnostic assessment tools
