Functional Skills Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Start date: 30 September 2026
About the Role
You'll join a training provider delivering Functional Skills English and maths to learners working towards the qualifications they need to move forward. You'll plan and lead inclusive, engaging sessions, adapting your approach to learners with a wide range of starting points and prior experiences of education.
Alongside classroom delivery, you'll assess progress, keep learner records up to date and work with colleagues across the organisation to make sure every learner is supported.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering Functional Skills English and maths sessions to learners at a range of levels.
- Assessing learners' starting points and tracking their progress towards their qualifications.
- Preparing learners for formal assessment and supporting them through it.
- Maintaining accurate course administration, including registers and assessment records.
- Working with colleagues to provide the academic and pastoral support learners need to achieve.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A relevant subject qualification in English or maths
- Experience of delivering Functional Skills, or the subject knowledge and confidence to do so
- Strong communication skills and a flexible, patient approach with learners
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed or DET, or a willingness to work towards one
- Experience in further education, adult learning or a similar setting
