Functional Skills Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Location: the South West
Start date: 15 September 2026
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider to deliver functional skills maths and English to learners working across Entry Level through to Level 2. It's a role where you'll see the difference you make — building confidence in learners who may not have had the best experience of maths or English the first time around.
You'll plan and deliver sessions that are engaging, inclusive and pitched to a range of starting points, and you'll support learners through to their assessments.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering functional skills maths and English sessions to learners at Entry Level 1 through to Level 2.
- Producing schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment plans and learning materials.
- Assessing learner progress, maintaining records of formative and summative assessment, and providing constructive feedback.
- Preparing learners for their functional skills examinations.
- Supporting learners with a range of needs to achieve their individual goals.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification in maths, English or a related subject
- Experience of delivering functional skills maths and/or English
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to inspiring learners
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET) or willingness to work towards one
- Experience of teaching in a further education or adult learning setting
- Experience of supporting learners with special educational needs and disabilities
