Functional Skills Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Location: the West Midlands

Are you an experienced English or maths teacher looking for your next opportunity within further education?
About the Role
As a Functional Skills Lecturer, you'll deliver Functional Skills qualifications for a further education provider, helping learners build the English and maths skills they need for work, further study and everyday life.
You'll plan and deliver engaging sessions to learners of mixed abilities, assess progress against Functional Skills requirements and work alongside the wider teaching team to maintain strong standards of teaching, learning and assessment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering Functional Skills sessions across a range of levels and abilities.
- Preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Carrying out initial and diagnostic assessment to establish learners' starting points.
- Marking learner work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge to build confidence and motivation.
- Keeping accurate records of attendance, progress and achievement.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience of delivering Functional Skills English or maths within further education, training or adult learning
- Strong subject knowledge at Level 2 and below
- Ability to engage and motivate learners of mixed abilities
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET) or willingness to work towards one
- Experience of working with learners who have additional learning needs
