Job Description
ESOL Lecturer
Temporary
Location: the East of England
Start date: 27 August 2026
Are you an ESOL specialist who wants to help learners build the English they need for work, study and everyday life?
About the role
As an ESOL Lecturer, you'll plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop your learners' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. You'll teach adults and young people from a wide range of backgrounds, making the language relevant and achievable for each of them.
Working with a further education provider, you'll teach across the ESOL programme, adapting your approach to a range of levels and helping every learner progress. You'll monitor progress closely and give the feedback and encouragement that keeps students on track.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering ESOL lessons that are engaging and well structured.
- Preparing schemes of work, resources and assessments that support progression and achievement.
- Assessing learners' starting points and placing them at the right level.
- Marking work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Tracking learner performance and putting interventions in place where needed.
- Contributing to curriculum development so that content stays current and relevant.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- A relevant qualification in ESOL, TESOL or English language teaching
- Experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages
- The ability to adapt your teaching to learners of differing levels and backgrounds
Desirable (but not essential):
- A teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
- Experience of teaching in a further education setting
If you're ready to help learners find their voice in English, we'd love to hear from you.
