English Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Are you an experienced English teacher looking to help learners gain the qualification that opens the door to their chosen career?
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to learners studying alongside their vocational programmes. Many of them will have struggled with English at school, so you'll play a key part in rebuilding their confidence as well as their skills.
You'll work within a committed English team of skilled practitioners, planning and assessing your own teaching while contributing to the wider quality of the programme.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging GCSE and Functional Skills English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
- Planning and preparing schemes of work, resources and assessments.
- Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
- Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge to build confidence and motivation.
- Contributing to curriculum development and quality improvement.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience teaching GCSE or Functional Skills English in further education or secondary education
- Strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
- Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire learners
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area
