About the Role

You'll join a further education provider to deliver high-quality English teaching across GCSE and Functional Skills programmes, supporting learners to build the skills and confidence they need to achieve their qualifications.

You'll plan and assess learning, track progress and create a positive classroom environment for students of mixed abilities, many of whom are working towards English alongside a vocational programme.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering engaging GCSE and Functional Skills English lessons.
• Preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
• Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
• Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge to build confidence and motivation.
• Working closely with curriculum colleagues to embed English across vocational programmes.
• Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• Experience of teaching GCSE and Functional Skills English in further education or secondary education
• A recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, or a willingness to work towards one
• Strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
• Ability to differentiate and adapt your teaching to varied learning needs
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• An Enhanced DBS, or a willingness to obtain one
• Two references from your most recent employers

Desirable (but not essential):

• A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area
• Experience of supporting learners on vocational programmes
