English Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Start date: September 2026
About the Role
A further education provider is looking for an English Lecturer to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to post-16 learners.
You'll teach learners from a range of vocational areas, many of whom are resitting English to secure a Grade 4, and you'll help them build the confidence and skills to progress into further study or employment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging GCSE and Functional Skills English sessions to learners of mixed abilities.
- Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
- Supporting learners with exam preparation, attendance and engagement.
- Working collaboratively with curriculum colleagues and support staff to ensure inclusive practice.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET, QTS, QTLS or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards one
- Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
- Commitment to supporting learners from diverse backgrounds
Desirable (but not essential):
- A degree in English or a related subject
- Previous experience within further education
- Experience supporting resit learners
