Job Description

English Lecturer

Temporary | Contract

Location: London

Start date: September 2026

Are you an experienced English teaching professional who wants to help post-16 learners gain the qualifications they need to move forward?

About the Role

As an English Lecturer with a further education provider, you'll plan and deliver engaging English lessons to learners across a range of study programmes, many of whom are working towards a Grade 4 or building the literacy skills they need for work and further study.

You'll adapt your teaching to a wide range of abilities and backgrounds, tracking progress, giving clear and constructive feedback, and helping learners build the confidence to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment materials.
  • Assessing learner work and giving feedback that helps students improve.
  • Monitoring learner progress and keeping accurate records.
  • Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building confidence and motivation.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive classroom where learners are supported and challenged.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • A degree or Level 3 qualification in English or a related subject
  • Experience teaching English, ideally to post-16 learners
  • Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
  • The ability to adapt your teaching to varied learning needs

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or QTLS
  • Experience teaching within further education
  • Experience supporting resit learners

If you're ready to help learners achieve an essential qualification, we'd love to hear from you.
