Job Description

English Lecturer

Temporary

Location: the East of England

Start date: August 2026

Are you an English specialist who enjoys helping learners gain the qualification that opens the next door for them?

About the Role

You'll join the English team at a further education provider, delivering English to post-16 learners working towards their qualifications alongside their wider study programmes.

You'll plan and deliver sessions, assess learner work and track progress, giving the feedback and encouragement that keeps learners moving forward. You'll also work alongside colleagues across the curriculum to support learners who have gaps in their knowledge or who have not yet achieved in English.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and accessible English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
  • Planning schemes of work, resources and assessments that support achievement and progression.
  • Assessing learner work, giving timely feedback and monitoring progress.
  • Preparing learners for formal examinations and assessments.
  • Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building their confidence and motivation.
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance, achievement and outcomes.
  • Working collaboratively with the English team and wider curriculum colleagues.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Subject knowledge in English to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English to post-16 or secondary learners
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to a range of learning needs
  • Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, CertEd, DET or QTLS
  • Experience teaching within further education
  • Experience supporting resit learners

If you're ready to help learners achieve the English qualification that opens up their next step, we'd love to hear from you.
