Job Description
Engineer Workshop Tutor
Temporary
Location: the North West
Are you an experienced engineering professional looking to pass your practical skills on to the next generation?
About the Role
A further education provider in the North West is looking for an Engineer Workshop Tutor to deliver hands-on workshop training alongside the underpinning theory. You'll plan and run practical sessions that build the competence, confidence and safe working habits the industry expects.
You'll work with learners of varying ability, adapting your delivery so everyone can progress, and you'll track that progress so no one falls behind.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering practical workshop sessions in engineering.
- Teaching the theory that sits behind the practical work.
- Assessing learners' knowledge and practical skills and giving clear, constructive feedback.
- Maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop and high standards of health and safety.
- Producing learning materials and resources to support delivery.
- Monitoring attendance, engagement and achievement, and stepping in early where a learner needs support.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in engineering or a related subject
- Current, relevant occupational experience in engineering
- Confidence working in a workshop environment
- A genuine desire to train, mentor and develop future engineers
Desirable (but not essential):
- A teaching or assessing qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
- Previous experience of teaching, training or mentoring apprentices
Teaching experience isn't essential — industry professionals looking to move into education are welcome to apply, with training and support available.
Shape the Next Generation of Engineers
If you're ready to put your engineering experience to work in the workshop, we'd love to hear from you.
