Early Years Assessor - Mat Leave
Temporary | Contract
Location: the South East
Start date: September 2026
Are you an experienced early years professional who enjoys supporting learners to prove what they can do in the workplace?
About the Role
Working with a further education provider in the South East, you'll assess learners and apprentices working towards early years qualifications, judging their occupational competence across both workplace and classroom settings.
You'll plan and carry out assessments, track progress against standards, and give clear, constructive feedback that keeps learners moving towards successful completion. You'll also work closely with employers to make sure placements give learners the experience their qualifications require.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing learners' practical and theoretical work against early years qualification requirements.
- Carrying out regular progress reviews and recording individual learner achievement.
- Providing constructive feedback and supporting learners in developing their occupational competence.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with early years employers.
- Travelling to employer premises to carry out workplace assessments.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in early years or a related subject
- Assessor qualification such as CAVA, TAQA, A1 or equivalent
- Recent practical experience in early years education and care
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Driving licence and access to transport for travel between employer sites
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience of assessing within a further education or training provider setting
- A relevant degree
