Director Maths & English
Temporary
Location: London
Start date: 2 October 2026
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider in London, leading maths and English provision across the organisation. You'll set the strategic direction for GCSE and Functional Skills delivery, and make sure learners resitting these subjects are supported to achieve and progress.
You'll lead the teaching teams, drive quality and keep a close eye on learner performance, working with curriculum areas across the organisation to embed maths and English into wider study programmes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the strategic direction and delivery of maths and English provision.
- Managing, supporting and developing the maths and English teaching teams.
- Driving quality improvement, including learning walks, observations and quality assurance activity.
- Monitoring learner progress, attendance and achievement, and acting where performance needs to improve.
- Overseeing curriculum planning, timetabling and resourcing across the provision.
- Working with curriculum areas to embed maths and English into wider study programmes.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Significant experience of teaching GCSE or Functional Skills maths and English in a further education setting
- Experience of leading, managing or coordinating a team
- A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, DET or equivalent
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, learner achievement and curriculum planning
- Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience of leading maths and English provision at a whole-organisation level
- Experience of working with curriculum teams to embed maths and English into study programmes
