Catering Assistant
Temporary | Contract
Location: the West Midlands
Start date: 30 September 2026
About the Role
As a Catering Assistant, you'll join the catering team at a further education provider, helping to prepare and serve food to staff, learners and visitors across the day.
You'll work in a busy kitchen and service environment, supporting the smooth running of each service period and keeping standards of hygiene and food safety high throughout.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the preparation and presentation of food and drinks.
- Serving customers at the counter and handling cash and card payments.
- Keeping kitchen, servery and dining areas clean, tidy and well stocked.
- Washing up and cleaning equipment, surfaces and utensils.
- Following food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures at all times.
- Supporting the wider catering team during busy service periods.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Previous catering, kitchen or food service experience
- An understanding of food hygiene and health and safety standards
- A reliable, flexible approach and the ability to work at pace
- Good customer service and teamwork skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- A Level 2 Food Safety qualification
- Experience of working in an education or large-scale catering setting
