Job Description
Attendance and Pastoral Officer
Temporary
Start date: October 2026
Are you a supportive, resilient professional who believes every learner deserves someone in their corner?
About the Role
You'll join an education provider as an Attendance and Pastoral Officer, working with learners to improve attendance and engagement while supporting their wellbeing day to day.
You'll be a first point of contact for learners facing barriers to their education, monitoring attendance patterns, following up on absence and putting practical support in place before small issues become bigger ones. You'll work closely with teaching staff, support colleagues and families to keep learners on track.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring learner attendance and following up on absence and lateness.
- Providing pastoral support to learners facing personal or practical barriers to learning.
- Identifying learners at risk of disengaging and putting early interventions in place.
- Raising and reporting welfare and safeguarding concerns through the correct procedures.
- Maintaining accurate, confidential records of contact, interventions and outcomes.
- Working with teaching colleagues, parents and carers to support improved engagement.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience supporting young people in an education or similar setting
- A confident, empathetic approach to pastoral care and building trust with learners
- Strong organisation and accurate record keeping
- Good communication skills with learners, colleagues and families
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience monitoring attendance and delivering targeted interventions
- A relevant qualification in education, youth work or a related discipline
If you're ready to help learners stay engaged and supported, we'd love to hear from you.
