Location: Regional cover across South establishments (HMP Exeter, HMP Channings Wood, HMP The Verne, HMP Portland, HMP Winchester) — based at the establishment closest to home

Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum (Depending on experience)

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

The Opportunity

Are you an exemplary educator and quality specialist with a passion for driving educational excellence? Do you have the coaching expertise to inspire teaching staff, elevate assessment standards, and improve learning outcomes across secure environments?

MK College Group has an exciting regional opportunity for an Advanced Quality Practitioner to join the Prison Services Quality team. Covering prison establishments across the South region (including HMP Exeter, HMP Channings Wood, HMP The Verne, HMP Portland, and HMP Winchester), you will serve as a lead practitioner—coaching teaching staff, delivering impactful CPD, and embedding best practices to ensure adult learners in custody receive outstanding education that supports their rehabilitation.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Quality Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning, and assessment across regional prison education departments to ensure learners make sustained, substantial progress.

  • Coaching & Mentoring: Work directly with tutors and lecturers, delivering tailored coaching, modeling exemplary teaching practice, and supporting staff development.

  • CPD & Best Practice: Plan, design, and facilitate engaging Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions and establish effective networks to share best practices across the region.

  • Observational Reviews: Utilise data, learning walks, deep dives, and developmental observations to identify areas for growth and implement targeted quality intervention plans.

  • Operational Oversight: Maintain strong regional engagement by spending 4 to 5 days per week on-site across southern establishments, maintaining active oversight and supporting local management teams.

What We Are Looking For

  • Teaching Excellence: A recognized Level 5+ teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent) with a proven track record as an exemplary classroom practitioner or tutor.

  • Quality & Coaching Experience: Demonstrable experience in quality assurance, instructional coaching, mentoring, and delivering professional development within FE, adult education, or secure prison settings.

  • Subject & Inspection Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF), quality assurance systems, and adaptive pedagogy for diverse learner needs.

  • Regional Flexibility: Willingness to travel across South region prison sites (4–5 days per week) using cost-effective travel, with your primary base assigned to the prison closest to your home.
