GCSE English Lecturer
Temporary
Location: the North West
Start date: October 2026
About the Role
As a GCSE English Lecturer, you'll deliver engaging and accessible lessons to learners resitting GCSE English as part of their study programme, supporting them to achieve a Grade 4 and build the literacy skills they need for work, further study and everyday life.
Working with a further education provider in the North West, you'll plan schemes of work and resources, track progress and adapt your teaching to suit learners of mixed abilities and differing levels of confidence.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging and accessible GCSE English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
- Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Tracking learner progress, marking work and providing timely feedback.
- Supporting students with gaps in knowledge, building confidence and motivation.
- Working collaboratively with the English team and wider curriculum staff.
- Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience teaching GCSE English within further education or secondary education
- Strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
- Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire learners
- A recognised UK teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, DTLLS, DET or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
Desirable (but not essential):
- A degree-level qualification in English or a related subject
