About the Role
You'll join a further education provider as a Functional Skills Lecturer, delivering English and maths to learners working towards Functional Skills qualifications. You'll plan accessible, engaging sessions that meet learners where they are and help them close gaps in their skills and confidence.
You'll assess learner work, track progress and put support in place where learners need it, working alongside colleagues across the organisation to make sure each learner gets what they need to achieve and progress.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging English and maths sessions to learners working towards Functional Skills qualifications.
- Planning, preparing and adapting schemes of work for learners of varying abilities.
- Assessing learner work regularly and providing clear, constructive feedback.
- Monitoring attendance, progress and engagement, and putting interventions in place where needed.
- Supporting learners to build confidence, resilience and the skills they need to progress.
- Maintaining accurate records, reports and progress tracking.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- GCSE English and maths at grade C/4 or above, or equivalent
- Experience teaching or supporting learners in English and/or maths
- Strong classroom management and the ability to engage learners who may have disengaged from education
- Excellent communication skills and a calm, consistent approach
- A commitment to inclusive teaching and supporting learners with additional needs
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
- Experience within a further education or adult learning setting
If you're ready to help learners achieve the English and maths qualifications that open doors for them, we'd love to hear from you.
