Are you an experienced English teacher who enjoys helping learners gain the qualifications that open doors?

About the Role

A training provider is looking for a Functional Skills English Lecturer to deliver Functional Skills English to learners across a range of levels and study programmes.

You'll plan and deliver engaging sessions, assess progress and build the confidence of learners who may have struggled with English in the past. You'll create a supportive classroom where learners feel able to achieve, and you'll work alongside curriculum colleagues so that English feels relevant to each learner's wider programme.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and delivering Functional Skills English sessions to learners of mixed abilities.
• Preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
• Assessing learner work, tracking progress and providing timely, constructive feedback.
• Adapting teaching to meet the needs of individual learners and close gaps in knowledge.
• Working with curriculum colleagues to embed English within wider study programmes.
• Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

• A Level 3 qualification in English or a related subject
• Experience of delivering Functional Skills English
• Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
• The ability to engage and motivate learners who may lack confidence in the subject

Desirable (but not essential):

• A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent)
• Experience of working in further education or adult learning
