English Lecturer
Temporary
Location: the North West
Are you an English specialist who enjoys helping learners rebuild their confidence with the subject?
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider in the North West, delivering GCSE and Functional Skills English to learners studying across a range of vocational programmes.
Many of your learners will be resitting, and some will have struggled with reading and writing for years. You'll plan sessions that meet mixed abilities, close gaps in knowledge and show learners how literacy and communication apply to work, life and further study.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging and accessible English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
- Planning and preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Marking learners' work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Tracking learner progress and supporting those with gaps in knowledge.
- Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.
- Working with curriculum colleagues to support achievement and retention.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience of teaching GCSE or Functional Skills English
- Strong understanding of the GCSE specification and effective resit strategies
- Ability to differentiate and adapt teaching to varied learning needs
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS check
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, QTLS or DET
- Experience of teaching in a further education setting
- A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area
