Are you a BSL interpreter or communication support worker or fluent in sign-language, looking for your next opportunity within education?
About the Role
An education provider is looking to appoint BSL Interpreters and Communication Support Workers to support Deaf and hard of hearing learners, ensuring they have full access to their studies and campus life. This is a contract role, with a start date of September 2026.
You'll work closely with learners, tutors and support staff to make lessons, discussions and wider college activities fully accessible, adapting your approach to suit the needs of each individual and the demands of the subject being taught.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing accurate and timely BSL interpretation or communication support within lessons and other educational settings.
- Supporting Deaf and hard of hearing learners to access the curriculum on an equal footing with their peers.
- Working collaboratively with tutors and support staff to prepare for sessions and adapt communication approaches as needed.
- Maintaining professional standards of confidentiality and impartiality at all times.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Fluent in British Sign-Language
- Experience providing communication support in an education setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working within a further education environment
- Familiarity with a range of subject areas and associated specialist vocabulary
