Job Description

Job Title: Bricklaying Lecturer – Prison Education

Location: HMP Rochester (Rochester, Kent)

Salary: Up to £37,440 per annum (Subject to skills and experience)

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced bricklayer or masonry specialist looking to step off the site and use your trade skills to build better futures? Have you ever considered turning your practical expertise into a rewarding teaching career in an environment where no two days are the same and time flies?

My client has an exciting opportunity for an inspiring Bricklaying Lecturer to join the prison-based Education Team at HMP Rochester—a large Category C male establishment in Kent. In this workshop-based role, you will deliver practical bricklaying classes to small groups of adult learners, guiding them to achieve trade-standard qualifications, build confidence, and secure post-release employment in the construction industry.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Practical Trade Instruction: Plan and deliver engaging, hands-on bricklaying and masonry sessions, guiding learners from basic blockwork through to formal trade qualifications.

  • Trade Standards & Workplace Habits: Instill key industry standards, professional brickwork techniques, site safety, tool discipline, and strong workplace behaviours.

  • Student Progression: Support learners through individual course pathways, tracking progress and helping them develop skills applicable to site work upon release or within prison-based work opportunities.

  • Rehabilitation & Growth: Foster a positive, structured learning environment that builds learner confidence, independence, and work-readiness to help reduce reoffending.

  • Collaborative Teaching: Work as part of the broader team, receiving full ongoing training and support to thrive in a fast-paced, secure environment.

What We Are Looking For

  • Essential Trade Skills: Substantial practical trade experience and vocational competence as a qualified bricklayer or mason.

  • Teaching Credentials: Prior teaching or lecturing experience is desirable, but not essential. Full training and support will be provided to help you develop your teaching pedagogy.

  • Communication & Engagement: Ability to communicate effectively, manage workshop dynamics, and use varied practical delivery methods to engage adult learners.

  • Passion & Resilience: A positive, supportive attitude with a genuine commitment to helping learners overcome barriers and rebuild their lives through vocational skills.

What's on Offer

  • Full ongoing training and support
  • Teaching pedagogy training provided
